On November 20, 2025, ten members and guests of Rusk County Poetry
Society met at the multi-purpose building of South Main Church of Christ
in Henderson, Texas. Poets had been encouraged to bring their constellation of words and lines, modeled on the lesson that Richard presented in September, and some shared the poem that they developed from the creative process.
A motion was passed to change the RCPS annual contest category subject to “endurance.” Officers were elected for 2026:
President Janet Tyner, Vice-President Mary Tindall, Treasurer Carol
Thompson, Recording Secretary Ilenya Marrin, and Corresponding
Secretary Lisa Holcomb.
Our mid-afternoon snack team was Ilenya, Mary, Janet, and Carol.
Sue Roberts, Spotlight Poet, incorporated one of her poems as a model
for her lesson, titled “Poetry in Prose.” Sue shared excerpts from works
by well-known authors that included poetic devices and images. The
assignment for the next meeting is to select a line, a paragraph, or even a
thought from one of the prose examples in the lesson and use it to
compose your own poem.
